By tracing a stick across shifting sands, the image of a palm tree is scratched and drawn onto the temporary ground. The resulting work forms part a collection of drawings each depicting a singular, totem-like palm. The Palm Drawings are an attempt to create a simple symbol of nature, as well as a metaphor for the human encounter with the natural world.
From this perspective, each palm stands as both a silent witness to and a reflection of our individual and collective experience of the natural world—an experience shaped as much by wonder and connection as by exploitation and loss.
